The Tomb of Tutankhamun
(1334 BC -1325 BC) is located in the Valley of the Kings on
the West Bank of Thebes (modern day Luxor) and has the reference of
KV62. The site of the burial place is cut into the floor of the valley.
An entrance stairway of 16 steps descends into the tomb of King Tut. The tomb of
Ramses VI, ref. KV9, was subsequently built directly above the Tomb of
Tutankhamun.
Tomb Measurements
The tomb of King Tut was hastily
prepared due to the untimely death of the young pharaoh, it is much
smaller than the normal royal tombs. The measurements, in metres and
feet are as follows:

Maximum height
of the tomb : 3.68 m or 12.07 ft

Maximum width of
the tomb : 7.86 m or 25.78 ft

Total length of
the tomb: 30.79 m or 101.01 ft
Tutankhamun Tomb Layout
The tomb of King Tut
consists of a series of corridors leading to a series of
four different chambers.

Entrance
staircase descends to a short corridor at the bottom of the
stairs

The short
corridor lead to a sealed doorway leading to a rectangular
vestibule, or side chamber, with a small annexe

This lead to a
second sealed doorway leading to the Burial chamber.
The centre of the burial chamber
contained the golden colored shrines which housed the large red quartzite sarcophagus,
coffins and mummy of Tutankhamun. The burial chamber is
the only room in the tomb which is decorated with paintings

The Eastern wall
of the Burial Chamber leads to an annexe which was called
the Treasury by Howard Carter
