The royal tombs had been subject to attack by Libyan raiders and general disorder in Egypt allowed them to raid the out lying districts of Thebes, especially the rich pickings to be had in the Valley of the Kings. The Egyptian rule had significantly weakened and Libyans were allowed to enter the country with little opposition. It was during this period that Egypt also lost its strong hold on Nubia.
